The Man Behind BCC's Successful Teams

April 29, 2014 by admin

While Brookdale does have their fantastic teams and coaches, they may not be as successful without this man: Shawn Noel, 37, who grew up outside Albany, N.Y., has been the director of athletics and recreation for almost two years.
As the athletic director, Noel is responsible for overseeing every detail of the athletic department, from scheduling, transportation and picking who will play for the teams.
He tries to build professional relationships with all of the athletes, but there are some students he has become closer to than others.
“They are a fun group for the most part. They work hard, and I try and support the best that I can,” Noel said.
When summer comes, Noel is still busy. He runs summer camps on Brookdale’s campus for younger kids. Camps include baseball, fencing and riding bikes. Noel said that if he wasn’t at Brookdale he would love to do something involving travel, “maybe sell necklaces at a Caribbean island.”
He is not without an education either. Noel has a bachelor’s degree, which he earned at Oswego State, and a master’s in business administration at the University of Albany.
His advice for athletes is “Strive to do your best every day and work hard.”
