Students with a sense of adventure and the admiration for exploring new places have a plethora of options.  The college offers a wide range of frequent study abroad programs that gives students a chance to travel all over the globe, while also earning credits by taking specific classes.
On Oct. 9, the International Education Center held a general information session where  upcoming study abroad options were explained and described.
Before the beginning of the meeting, several students lined the off-white colored walls outside MAC 114.
“I’ve always wanted to see different places and experience another culture, and I figured this is the best way to do it,” said Lamar Higginson, a 20-year-old, radiology major from Red Bank.
“I came because I really want to earn some credits while studying in Bermuda, I’ve always wanted to go there,” said Ashley Applegate, a 21-year-old marine biology major from Union Beach.
The excitement rose to another level when Janice Thomas, one of the heads of the International Education Center at the college, appeared from down the hall to open the door.   Anticipation and enjoyment filled the air as the eager 15 students, some accompanied by parents and guardians, entered the room.
After a welcome from Thomas and after handing out some literature around the room, she addressed the attendants.
“The International Education Center here at Brookdale is offering you all the chance to take classes in Bermuda, Italy (Florence and Rome), Ghana and London for the upcoming semesters in the year 2014,” Thomas said.
Everyone in the room was extremely attentive to her and there was not a single iPhone in sight.  She continued to talk about each program briefly with a PowerPoint presentation and answered questions from both students and parents at the conclusion of the orientation.
“That was really informative, and I got a lot of my questions answered,” said Higginson after everyone spilled back out into the hall.
“I’m so excited for this, the Bermuda trip offers a class that goes along with my major,” said Applegate.
The study abroad orientations offer much insight for anyone looking to expand their academic horizons by traveling to one of the many interesting destinations Brookdale has to offer.
