Letter To The Editor: Activism Starts Here!

October 13, 2012 by admin

Thomas Jefferson said, "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

Brookdale students may be unaware of the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the Brookdale Board of Trustees continues to waste on persecuting former Athletic-Director, Frank Lawrence.

They made a terrible error when they fired him for disobeying a policy that did not exist. Judge Donald Stein found in favor of reinstating Frank, but the Board refused to admit their mistake. They fired him on May 4, 2012 after 12 months of spending student and taxpayer money. Understandably, Frank appealed that decision, and the Board still pays lawyers, marketing firms and employees your money to fight an unjust cause.

Students, staff, and their family or friends can go to the Freeholders' website: http://co.monmouth.nj.us/FreeholderContact.aspx - choose all Freeholders, fill in the required fields, and send them a message regarding the removal of board Chair Josh Elkes, whose term expires in October.

It is also important that they have a qualified candidate to replace him immediately so that he doesn't stay on until someone else is appointed. Also, you can go to the Facebook page entitled, Brookdale Injustice, for updates, information and to leave messages of support.

Frank Lawrence did nothing wrong, but he was unjustly fired. He followed the law, but the Brookdale Board of Trustees ignored the judge's decision. We must stand up against tyranny with the only weapon that we possess, our own consciences. I hope you will join this fight.

     Sincerely,

     Jack Ryan
