LINCROFT – No. 5 Brookdale (12-1-1,9-0-1) defeated Gloucester Community College 1-0 Saturday on its home turf for its twelfth win of the season. All twelve wins have come in the form of shutouts, with the defense playing at such an elite level that an opponent shot on goal is a rarity.

In Saturday’s 1-0 win, the defense was so air-tight that Gloucester (5-6-1, 4-5) was held to 0 shots on goal, with defenders,  Justin Gregory (Wall HS,)  Pat Holliday (Howell HS,) Tyler Gilson, (Red Bank Regional HS,) Robert Fortune (Monmouth University,) and Tyler Daly (Neptune HS,) all responsible for the blanking.

Goalkeeper Brad Bennett (Middletown South HS,) an imposing presence in goal, has been unbeatable when called upon to make a stop.

Sophomore Midfielder Thomas Vasquez (Middletown North) netted the game winning goal at the 18:42 mark of the first half. Keith Monaghan, (Red Bank HS) and Kyle Annecchino, (Neptune HS) assisted on the play.

Brookdale was on the road Tuesday at Ocean Community College (7-2-1, 5-2-1,) before returning home Friday, Oct. 12 for a 4 p.m. contest versus Passaic Community College (3-3-1, 2-3-1.)

The Lady Blues (10-4, 7-1) have also been playing outstanding soccer, defeating No.5 Gloucester County College 1-0 Saturday in Gloucester for their third shutout win in a row.

Alexa Masino, (Howell HS) tallied the game winning goal in the first half, with Casey Howie, (Middletown South HS) assisting.

Erin Kinneman, (Matawan HS) was impenetrable in the goal, making several tremendous saves, helping to preserve the win.

The nation’s number one ranked DIII team, Ocean County College (11-1, 8-0) will visit Brookdale Tuesday, Oct. 9 for a crucial Region XIX contest.
