Aryn Kyle kicks off the Visiting Writers Series at Brookdale this semester on Oct.10. In her short story, "Boys and Girls Like You And Me," Kyle opens the curtains of adolescence.

According to Vogue, her story features young women making their way in an America made up of stulifying suburban sameness-strip malls, generically named apartment complexes--who go to ruthless lengths to get what they want, including sleeping with married men and betraying everyone, most of all themselves.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.10 in the Navesink I room of the Student Life Center.

Students will have a unique opportunity to not only communicate with the author and ask questions, but listen to the story of her wrtiting process and what her intensions were while writing her bestsellers.

"We have chosen the stories by Aryn Kyle because her characters are young and Brookdale students might face the same life situations," said Suzanne Parker, director of the Creative Writing Program.

Kyle was born in Peoria,Illinois, and grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado. Kyle's debut novel, "The God of Animals" was an instant bestseller and the winner of an American Library Association's "Alex Award," an MPIBA Award among others.

Free coffee and biscotti will be offered. The suggested donation for attendance is $3. For more information please contact  Student Life & Activities at 732-224-2500 or email at:
