Dr. Maureen Murphy Named Brookdale's Next President

     On Tuesday, Feb. 21 the Board of Trustees announced that Dr. Maureen Murphy will be the next president of Brookdale Community College effective July 1.
     She will be taking the place of Dr. William M. Toms, who has been acting as Brookdale’s interim president since last March.
     Murphy was chosen from 93 initial candidates for the position. Feedback was taken from students, faculty, and staff which ultimately led the board to make the decision to hire Murphy.
     She will be the first female president in Brookdale's history. Murphy is currently the president of San Jacinto College South in Houston,Texas.
     Murphy has had leadership experience at community college systems in three  states.
     She also has local ties, with family in Red Bank and Atlantic Highlands. As president, she looks forward to “fostering strong local relationships.”
     “I am proud to be joining Brookdale Community College. Brookdale has a long-standing reputation for innovation and excellence, and its students accomplish much," Murphy said in an email.
     "I look forward to Brookdale's future and any changes or new directions will build on an already strong foundation.”
     Murphy was hired at an annual salary of  $194,000.
     Murphy will not be recieving a car as part of the package.

She is committed to building on Brookdale’s reputation as the number one degree awarding community college in New Jersey,” said Josh Elkes, chair of Brookdale’s Board of Trustees.
