‘Make A Difference’ This Holiday Season

“This event is all in the title, 'Make A Difference.’” said Matt Riccardi, 23, a third-semester political science major from Union City.
Riccardi is the president of the Political Science club, which will be holding a Make a Difference Darfur Fundraiser 7 to 9 p.m. Dec.9 at the PAC.
In Sudan, there have been countless killings of innocent people because of guerilla warfare and civil issues in the region that have been labeled a genocide since 2003.
Villages have been ransacked and burned while women are raped while their men are made to watch often while being tied up. Tens of thousands of people have lost their homes and live on refugee camps in Sudan.
The Dec. 9 event will not only raise awareness of what is happening in Darfur, it will raise funds through raffles of such things as Giants and Jets tickets and spa days. The event will also feature a blend of refreshments and entertainment.
There are going to be a group of speakers at the event to raise awareness and among them will be keynote speaker Dr. James Sulton, Brookdale’s executive vice president of administration, operations and information technology.
Riccardi hopes to pack all 361 seats in the PAC. “My hope is not just to reach out to the students because it doesn't just fall on us, but the faculty as well, and community members and political leaders and our friends and families,” he said.
The donations raised from the fundraiser will be going to one of two organizations: DPDO (Darfur Peace & Development Organization) or Save Darfur Coalition.
The tickets for the event are $10 and are available at the Student Life & Activities information booth. For more information, contact Matt Riccardi at (910) 320-1625 or email him at or contact Johnathan Moschberger, club co-adviser at (732) 224-2321 or email him at .
