Counsel Corner: Welcome to the Real World

It has come to my attention that many of the students on this campus have been having arguments and even fights beginning to break out due to interpersonal issues.
A lot of people tend to go to friends to help solve their problems and that is fine.
The issue is that most of the people who people go to tend to open their mouths to people that have no business hearing the facts of these precarious situations.
I understand that a lot of people who do this are trying to get advice from other sources before giving advice to the people actually involved but pretend it is a crime drama where the names and places have been changed to protect the identity of those involved.
If it is not your story to tell, then please keep it to yourself. Now if say someone were to get upset with you for your involvement in it, then please do.
Out of respect to all people involved, do not start off by being on the offensive.
If someone starts a conversation with you about one of your faults then please be defensive but more importantly be respectful.
It is OK to defend yourself but please be a mature adult about it. No one will respect you if you just storm off in a hissy fit every time someone says that you did something wrong.
Try to be mature about it and be objective.
Every story has three sides to it; the side of one person, then its the other person, and then what really happened.
Be prepared in life to take your lumps from management who will probably be much meaner than a friend.
