Brookdale Women's Soccer Advances to Region XIX Championship Game

October 26, 2010 – With a 1-0 victory over Gloucester Community College, the Brookdale women’s soccer team advances to the Region XIX Championship game for the first time since 2006.

In an emotional battle, the Blues had a few early chances and controlled much of the possession in the first half. The first chance to solidify a tally, however, came on a Devin Hope (Howell) free kick in the eighth minute that just landed wide right.

Elyse Umasnky (Freehold) later made a save that verified her National ranking billing in the 28th minute, which was Gloucester’s first shot-on-goal of the day, marking a true momentum shift.

On the ensuing Jersey Blues’ possession, Danielle Lyon (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) redirected a Maggie Lowy (Ocean) cleared ball with her head to find a wide open Catherine Lovallo (Old Bridge). With a defender on her left side, Lovallo baited the goalie and made what would prove to be the game-winner, hitting the lower left corner.

Hope and Aly Kent (Lacey) anchored a strong defensive unit that limited the Roadrunners to five shots-on-goal, as Brookdale outshot Gloucester 18-5 over the course of the game. Umansky also made nine saves in the win.

Brookdale will now face Ocean, who defeated Middlesex, 5-0, earlier today for a chance to enter the NJCAA Division III National tournament. The Region XIX Championship game will be held at NJIT on Saturday at 9:30 a.m
