‘The Joker’ coaster to debut

JACKSON — A roller coaster that is coming to the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park this spring now has a name: The Joker.

The Joker, a notorious villain who has had many run-ins with Batman, will be the mascot and namesake for the 12-story ride.

The Joker is described as a 4-D, free-fly coaster and will be the 14th roller coaster featured at Great Adventure.

Registration opens for youth canoeing program

The Navesink Maritime Heritage Association in Fair Haven is now accepting registrations for its River Rangers summer canoeing program for children age 10-14.

The weekly program will run from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sessions will be held July 11-15, July 18- 22, Aug. 1-5, Aug. 8-12 and Aug. 15-19.

Three local filmmakers will have their work shown at the 14th annual Garden State Film Festival which will run from March 31 through April 3 in Atlantic City. Visitors may pay $12 for an individual screening or $45 for a weekend pass.

Joe Minnella, 34, of Howell, will screen his feature film “After Sandy,” which is about life after superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Plastic foam recycling for Holmdel residents

The Holmdel Township Department of Public Works and the Green Team have joined with Foam Pack Industries to offer an opportunity to recycle plastic foam from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 16.

The foam collection will take place at the town’s recycling center on Crawfords Corner Road. Local teens will supervise the collection to make sure the foam is white, clean and tape-free.
